The transition period for Romania for the transboundary shipments of wastes will come to an end by the end of 2015. Until the end of December of this year all cross-border transport of wastes required notifications and as from January 1st 2016 green-listed wastes can move freely with only an Annex VII document between Romania and the other EU countries. This will have an immense impact on our group, particularly on the MGG companies based in Romania.
Some strategic decisions have been made to make some changes in the MGG organization in Romania. These changes include the implementation of the concept of centers of competence. To give just one example of how this changes and optimizes the way of working: the facility of S.C. Remat MG S.A. in Frumuseni will become the center of competence for the treatment of E-Waste and for the processing of cables. As the cross-border transport of cables will not require a notification anymore as from January 1st 2016, it will become much easier to transport cable material from the other MGG companies to this competence center compared to the situation of today. At the same time the Remat MG facility of Frumuseni will process E-Waste by de-polluting and shredding this material. The non-ferrous material will undergo a limited process, after which the remainder will be transported to Metran in Austria. Transporting cables from Austria and the upgraded non-ferrous fraction from E-Waste to Metran allows a full utilization of this long haul transports, which clearly is a serious optimization.
Another decision taken this year is that the joint-venture Silnef in Brasov has become a fully owned subsidiary of the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group. The re-structuring process is still ongoing, but the formal re-establishment has taken place. The former Silnef company is now renamed into S.C. Remat Müller-Guttenbrunn srl and moved into new head-office in the city center of Brasov. With its 6 yards in and around Brasov and Bucharest, the focus of the company will change into increasing the servicing of industrial customers. “It is a great feeling to now be integral part of an international group, rather than just an individual player in this highly competitive market”, says General Manager Tom Mettke of newly formed S.C. Remat Müller-Guttenbrunn s.r.l.
The two Müller-Guttenbrunn companies in Romania will increase their cooperation in a number of activities. One of the clear advantages of the restructuring process is the ability to optimize the logistics from the collection points of the waste materials to a limited number of consolidation points between the processing centers of the two companies. “Increasingly the optimization of the network of collection points consolidation points and yards will become a competitive advantage”, says Mr. Marius Mairovitz – General Manager of S.C. Remat MG SA in the Arad region.
A new web-site has been developed for the two Müller-Guttenbrunn companies in Romania and this new web-site is on-line since a couple of weeks: www.remat-mg.ro
The Regional Director for the central and Eastern European companies Mag. Michael Kimmeswenger: “This opening of the Romanian borders for green listed waste was long due. The European market will become a much more level playing field now that the borders are finally open for compliant recyclers such as our group and not just for small informal waste pickers. We consider this as a huge chance which we need to grasp with open arms.”
